Outdated equipment, limited power, and no room for error – a complex upgrade begins.

Tomlinson Hall was approached by a prominent North East motor vehicle manufacturer to undertake the replacement of two ageing centrifugal heating pumps. These pumps were critical to the operation of their paint plant offices and several other areas of the factory. The existing Baric pump models had long since been discontinued, and sourcing like-for-like replacements was no longer feasible.

Further complicating the challenge, the manufacturer required the replacement units to remain within the existing motor power ratings to ensure compatibility with current control gear, avoiding the need for costly upgrades or redesigns.

Smart engineering meets energy efficiency – a tailored approach with future-ready tech.

After a thorough site assessment and evaluation of the system’s operational requirements, our engineering team selected two 75kW inverter-driven pump units. These pumps were equipped with IE4-rated energy-efficient motors – among the most efficient currently available. Not only did these comply with the power restrictions, but they also offered the customer immediate and measurable reductions in energy consumption.

Our selection process ensured that the new equipment matched the hydraulic performance of the original pumps while dramatically improving energy efficiency, reducing long-term operational costs, and lowering the site’s carbon footprint.

Precision fabrication and expert coordination to ensure a flawless fit.

Given the age and obsolescence of the original Baric pumps, some degree of modification to the pipework was inevitable. Working collaboratively with one of our trusted sub-contractors, we designed and fabricated new suction and discharge manifolds tailored to the new pumps. Additional system enhancements included the installation of new isolation and non-return valves, all fabricated and fitted to the highest industry standards.

All work was meticulously planned and executed during the client’s annual summer shutdown to eliminate disruption to ongoing production operations.

Improved performance, lower costs, and zero disruption to production.

  • Improved System Efficiency: The new pumps delivered significantly improved thermal efficiency across the sections of the plant they served.

  • Energy Savings: IE4 motors provided immediate cost reductions in energy use.

  • Minimal Downtime: All work was completed within the designated shutdown window.

  • Seamless Integration: Existing control gear remained in use, avoiding further capital expenditure.
